The goal of the Latvian Society for Medical Oncology (lat. abbr. LOĶA) is to create a progressive, modern system of specialists in the field of oncology working in accordance with the EU recommendations; assistance in the training of well-educated, highly qualified medical oncologists, competitive in Europe and the world. The aim is to achieve at least the same results of cancer treatment and life expectancy in Latvian cancer patients as in developed European countries.
At the moment, the association unites about 30 certified specialists who are engaged in medical treatment of oncological diseases in adult patients in the following specialized centers: Oncology Centre on Latvia at the Riga Eastern Clinical University Hospital; Oncology Clinic of the Pauls Stradiņš Clinical University Hospital; Daugavpils Regional Hospital; Liepaja Regional Hospital.
The Latvian Society for Medical Oncology supports specialists through the organization of educational seminars and conferences, through cooperation with state and non-state organizations in Latvia and the world. The Association carries out certification and recertification of medical oncologists in Latvia, thus controlling their level of qualifications.
